The Renascence Alliance Series was born out of my being inspired by several scientific books about varying theories by scientists from across different disciplines that all suggest one broad idea:

Humans were placed on Earth by aliens.

And subsequently, aliens visit Earth frequently.

And some even suggest we are aliens time traveling back for genetic purposes.

After reading these books, my mind could not rest thinking of the different reasons why or how another species would leave us here on Earth.

Are we meant to be a zoo?

An evolutionary experiment?

A penal colony?

A marooned alien ship?

In the end, I settled on a lost ship as this, to me, would make the most sense. In my life, I have found that the most obvious and least complex explanation is always the answer.

To my friends who believe in complex conspiracy theories, I always say to them, “You clearly have never been a manager of a team.” What I mean is that if you actually believe that so many people could keep a secret and at the same time execute a plan without making mistakes on such a global level, you must not know much about working with people. People are lovely. We are energetic and fun, but we are also individuals, and we are forgetful and deceitful at times. It’s all part of one big package, so the idea that a large group of people would be able to work towards one goal secretly, as many of these conspiracy theories suggest, is laughable to me.

Why am I bringing up conspiracy theories, besides to say the simplest answer is usually the answer? Also, to address that this idea about humans not being from Earth does sit firmly in the conspiracy theory category for many people. However, the more I think about it, the more we know about science and alien contact and took a cold look at religion, the more it makes sense. It’s just so simple, and maybe that is the problem. As humans, we want something more grandiose, something more equivalent to a conspiracy theory. As we value ourselves we would want more than a lost ship stranded in the galaxy or even worse, an alien's science experiment. Or as it is in my Renascence Alliance Series a god (I purposely still have not defined the gods as this will be developed further in the next series, Eternal Harmonies) who wants to be supreme and raise a population 'better' through different means the goddess of home on the Alliance Planets and this is why on Earth you had a rise of men being the dominant gender and not women as they are in the Alliance Empire.

I view the evidence for aliens being the source of human evolution just like I view statistics presented to me in the newspapers; you can interpret it a few different ways and see what you want to see. As far as our evolutionary track, I am not discounting that we may be originally from somewhere else, but at the same time, there is not enough evidence for me to be fully convinced as of yet. I am not an evolutionary biologist, nor am I a statistician or physicist, so perhaps the evidence is fully and firmly there. Still, I do not have the education to understand it, which is certainly a possibility.

Regardless, as I said, I could not get this notion of aliens being involved in human evolution out of my head, so I began writing the Renascence Alliance Series and many people said to me, “But Alma, you cannot write anything with explicit sex scenes and expect anyone to take your books as anything more than formulaic romance.”

I disagree. This is the 21st century, why should soft science fiction not have open-door sex written by a woman with all the fixing of romance surrounding it? Why should sex in science fiction always be so cold and unnatural? As many people have said before me, sex is the most natural act in the world.

However, what I did not realize when I started this series that I would have criticism on both sides from daring to write science fiction with romance and sex, from serious science fiction readers refusing to read sexually explicit scenes as no serious book can contain romantic sex, and from romance readers who felt unsatisfied when my books play out more like a science fiction book, following along with the alien cultural norms, alien laws and alien religion that I had established in the series. Needless to say, I have tested the patience of many readers.

I hope that many people will see my name, Alma Nilsson, and think, ‘Oh, this is that feminist science fiction writer who has a lot of ideas about romance, but also religion, sex, alien abduction, racism, and human origins,’ rather than people thinking I simply failed at writing a romance or that I have failed at writing a science fiction novel because my goal was to do neither of those things in their pure form. My Renascence Alliance Series was no accident, just like writing all my sex scenes with anatomically correct vocabulary was done on purpose to set my series apart.

To all my readers who have supported me through this first series, I cannot thank you enough. It is not easy to be different and new. I would also like to congratulate you on truly being members of the 21st century, as you are able to read a science fiction book with explicit sex scenes, romance, characters going to the bathroom and having menstrual cycles, but also books that contain scientifically postulated questions through fiction about the role of religion, sexual discrimination, racism and most importantly the question of human origins in the galaxy without freaking out that the books are exclusively science fiction or romance.

My next and final book in the Renascence Alliance Series, Seven Days on the Capital Planet, will be written in the first person, which is a break from my usual style and will follow Harmony Lane, an investigative reporter with her Mind Emotion Transmitter on so that no moment of her visit will be missed, meaning she will use the bathroom, have sex, as well as ask some very serious questions (I think it surprises some people that women can do all of these things, they can have sex, be interested in romance, and also have a well-working brain [and this isn’t science fiction, women like this do exist]). Seven Days on the Capital Planet will not only track Harmony’s visit but will contain maps, recipes, and sketches from the Empire. Harmony will also discuss the political situation between Earth and the Empire. Readers will learn about an underground movement on Earth to gain their freedom from the Empire, which is all inspired by Kara Rainer's death, who has become a martyr among humans.

I have not put Seven Days on the Capital Planet, Renascence Alliance Series Book 10, up for preorder because I am working with illustrators. Although we have a set deadline, in the time of Covid, we must all be a bit more understanding than we ever have been before, myself very much included. However, I am looking forward to sharing that book with you very shortly.

In the meantime, I have a story about a couple on Hogo through my newsletter, both in ebook and audio, narrated by Jill Smith. I am a quiet author and will only send new release updates and notifications about updates to the ongoing story from Hogo. Again, thank you all for following along and reading the Renascence Alliance Series. If you are interested in reading some scientifically based books that speculate about humanity’s evolutionary origins involving aliens and religion or the role of aliens visiting Earth that have served as inspiration and thought-provoking for me in the Renascence Alliance Series, I can recommend the following:
