"Quickly, I return to Lotta’s room, put on my warm wool pajamas, including a hat, and then light the smaller antique kerosene heater in this room as well. I watch it as the flame appears. I admire the familiar Scandinavian flowers painted on its worn grey body. Once the room feels warm enough, I crawl into bed under a heavy down duvet. The last thing I look at is the single candle and the Christmas tomten on the bedside table. I think to myself that I cannot forget to put out some porridge for the tomtarna. I smile as I think as if I’m a girl again; I’m sure it was just one of them playing a trick on me, knocking on the door. "
